Workshop: Putting Pen to Paper

Writing and drawing can be powerful ways to process and express what’s happening in our lives, including our activism. It gives us a chance to reflect and respond to the world around us. When was the last time you took time to put pen to paper, not for work but for yourself?

‘Putting Pen to Paper’ provides that opportunity.

The session will create space for activists to:

  • Discuss and explore the benefits of creative practices for activism, wellbeing, and personal development
  • Learn and play with different writing techniques and drawing activities
  • Enjoy ‘time out’ in a nourishing space with a dedicated intention to create and reflect

As participatory as you want – join in the guided activities or be autonomous. If you’d like, you can use the session as a focused space to do your own thing. You can also share your works if you want but that’s totally optional. This is not about about being “good” writer/artist, it’s about wellbeing, and giving yourself some space to process, reflect and express.

‘Putting Pen to Paper’ is the fifth Activist Wellbeing Workshops and will be facilitated by Suse Scholem. Suse is an activist, an artist and the event co-ordinator of Plan To Thrive. As well as curating PTT’s calendar of activist wellbeing events, Suse works on various projects focused on personal, social and cultural transformation. She’s passionate about building community, creative action for social change, living alternatives, social and personal development, and sustaining activism… and she’s excited to share a workshop that combines them all.

*Some paper, pens, lead pencils and selected coloured pencils will be provided, but if you want to use your own notebooks, paper, pens/textas etc. then please do bring them along.
*We’ll start at 2pm so please arrive 5-10 mins early.
*If you can/want, bring a small snack to share. We can socialise afterward. There’ll also be a small break in the middle.
*We want activist selfcare to be accessible… please note the sliding scale ticket structure, with pay the rent spaces free and no one turned away for lack of funds.
